Emily is a specialist data privacy and technology lawyer and head of Osborne Clarke’s office in Silicon Valley.

Emily has over 10 years’ experience advising on a range of data privacy issues and related contractual arrangements, including in the context of healthtech, telematics, smart meters, mobile payments, big data analytics, IoT and data monetisation projects.  She works with clients to deliver a full range of data compliance strategies to ensure good data handling practices and procedures, global data transfers, security breach management and training, and is helping clients to manage their compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation.

She also advises clients on technology transactions, including complex high-value IT procurements, IT outsourcing arrangements, cloud services agreements and in particular the related data privacy issues, such data transfers, cyber security and managing data processors effectively.  She also advises on dual-use export control regulations. In the data centre sector, she brings together her expertise in IT, data security issues and outsourcing projects and works with the real estate team to negotiate arrangements and deliver strategic advice to clients who are using or providing data centre and colocation services.

Emily is recommended by Legal 500 as a technology and data privacy expert who is ‘approachable’ and offers ‘clear, concise and business-appropriate advice’.  She regularly speaks externally on IT and data protection and privacy topics and member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

Emily trained with Osborne Clarke and qualified in 2004.  Emily also speaks Italian, having studied law at the Universita degli Studi di Parma, Italy, as part of her Law and Italian degree, and has also been on two secondments to Osborne Clarke’s Milan office.

Rachael is an UK employment lawyer based in Osborne Clarke’s Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices.

Rachael advises on UK employment law related questions in time-zone and project manages our US client’s international employment and incentives needs across Europe and Asia.

She has a wide range of experience across both contentious and non-contentious employment matters including terminations and exits, settlement agreements, discrimination and grievance issues, whistleblowing, restrictive covenants, managing poor performance, employment agreements and policies and the employment aspects of corporate transactions. She is also part of Osborne Clarke’s dedicated “GDPR for HR” team and has assisted clients with their GDPR preparations in the employment field.

Rachael works with a number of start-up and high profile clients, often in the Tech, Media and Comms sectors.

Rachael trained with Osborne Clarke and qualified into the London employment team in 2017 before relocating to Osborne Clarke’s West Coast offices in 2019.

Paul PorriniPaul Porrini | Chief Legal Officer | Smartsheet

Paul Porrini is Smartsheet’s Chief Legal Officer and Secretary. He has over 20 years of experience leading public and private technology companies through periods of significant growth and change. Paul most recently served as president and chief executive officer at YuMe, Inc., a global digital video advertising platform; prior to that, he was their executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary. Previously, he was vice president, deputy general counsel, and assistant secretary at Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HPQ), a large cap technology company. Before that he was senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary of Bluestone Software, Inc., a web app server enterprise software company. He has also held partner and associate roles at several law firms.

Paul began his legal career in the US SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance. He holds a B.S. in quantitative business analysis from Pennsylvania State University, a J.D. from Widener University School of Law, and an L.L.M. (Taxation) from Georgetown University Law Center.
